Vacation Travel Guide :: Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon Is Once In A Lifetime Treat by K Watkins

Carved out of a Colorado gorge the Grand Canyon is one of America's most beautiful places to go. The canyon is listed as one of the seven wonders of the world. The Grand Canyon was also one of the first national parks in the United States.

So, how was the canyon created you may wonder? Over millions of years the Colorado river carved the canyon out. The canyon is about 277 miles long and can reach down as far as a mile or more. What can you do at the Grand Canyon you may wonder besides staring for miles at the vast canyon.

Two of the more popular things that people enjoy at the Grand Canyon are hiking and white water rafting. Hiking the whole canyon is not advisable as the deeper in the canyon you go the hotter it gets which makes it very unbearable. You can also take a raft from up river.

The rafting trips are well organized and even with rafts with engines will take you at least 6 days to complete. Helicopter rides are another popular way tourist can see the Grand Canyon. Heat exhaustion is one of the most common problems you will encounter on your visit to the Grand Canyon. Bring plenty of water for the whole family.

When you visit the Grand Canyon you will see breathtaking views and be astonished at what you see. Just take the precautions against the heat and it will be a trip you will never forget.

If you want to pack in two locations in the same day you can go to Las Vegas and take one of the many helicopter tours of the Canyon. I have done this twice and both times the view was spectacular. You also get to see Las Vegas from the air and that is cool too.

You can also take a helicopter ride around the rim of the Canyon and some even land on the Canyon floor and have a a little lunch. Most of these trips can be found in nearby Las Vegas.

Take off from Las Vegas Airport on an exhilarating helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon. You'll enjoy a 45-minute helicopter flight each way, land deep in the canyon for a champagne picnic, and fly low over the famous Las Vegas neon Strip on your return.

This is a half-day tour, leaving you with time in the day free to explore Las Vegas and Nevada at your leisure. You will be surprised by the low prices.
