Pick a Hotel That Is Near A Shopping Mecca Like Bloomingdales
by Jack Hilton
On my last trip to New York City it cost me a small fortune in cabs
because I wanted to stay near ground zero and take in lower Manhattan.
My wife on the other hand had her own ideas she wanted to come to New
York City to shop.
I booked us into a hotel in lower Manhattan but I didn't really
give it much though. I figure one day we would venture uptown to see
Central Park and maybe have lunch at Mickey Mantles restaurant. My
wife saw it as a week of shopping though.
The first day we arrived I should have known I was in trouble when my
wife asked me if she could walk to Bloomingdales from the hotel. Being
that Bloomingdales was all the way up on 59th and Lexington avenue
that is not an option. I told her she could take the subway but it
would take a half an hour and she would have to go up the west side
and then across town she said I will just take a cab.
So two cab fares later she came back with a few handbags and a pair of
shoes. I was thinking that she had gotten her shopping bug out and we
could see the city. The next day as we were walking around Battery
Park she tells me she wants to go to Canal Street because she read in
Cosmopolitan that they had huge sales on Prada handbags there. I was
just about to scream as she bought pocketbooks the day before.
After an hour of her telling me she had to go I gave her money and put
her in a cab. At the time it was money well spent as I was tired of
hearing her. She met me back at the hotel complaining that the stuff
on Canal street were knockoffs so she didn't buy any.
The next day she wanted to see Macy's and the mall at Herald Square.
Yep you guessed it another cab ride except this time I went with her
and we walked over to the Empire State Building afterwards.
The rest of the week was basically the same thing over and over. I
didn't know New York City had so many shops. The lesson learned here
was that I could of stayed in a more expensive hotel and I would have
saved money on cabs. So if you and your wife or husband are thinking
about visiting New York City book a hotel in midtown Manhattan near
all these shops it will save you both time and money.
